It’s actually quite thought provoking, jeannw when considering the fact that it’s a children’s book. But it’s also the most satisfying thing she knows how to do. The dog lives with her. But, the people of Sparks, and conversely, the people of Ember, are close-minded and quite stereotypical of one another.

She lives in California, where it’s easy to grow everything from apples to zinnias.
