It’s also a portrait of Hercules among other mythical heroes that provides a good contrast to the recent idealized tv and movie portrayals. Entertaining at times, but occasionally awful and awkward.

Hercules is the thuggish bravo, a bit dim-witted, certainly star crossed and as a character wears thin until his return to the company of the Argonauts, Jason driven to greatness but not enthusiastically seeking it.
