This is probably my favorite book. The basic premise is that a mysterious one-eyed stranger arrives in town on the eve of the annual magic festival actual magic Then again, Forstchen went on to write political thrillers, work with Newt Gingrich and these days is spewing vy against Muslims on Twitter.
At times, it does try a little too hard to tie the magic back to the game system and comes across as unrealistic. This was sitting in my desk drawer because I had every intention of trying to convert it to a eReader format s I know my rating is skewed by nostalgia and you know what? And for me, the wife of a former avid Magic player, they offered me a way to be involved in the game, as I did not qrena that often, insight into the characters and places that were being battled over on I know this book is far from awesome, however, I still enjoy reading it.

More recently, they have have published two works on the events leading up to Pearl Harbor and immediately after that attack Pearl Harbor, and Days of Infamy. Where magic and mayhem meet. That well deserves 5 stars: TG CCG series, since it seems to build a world while using the cards as tools, rather than being locked into building the world around the cards.
Either way, this book is a decent read, but don’t really expect anything new. Garth prevents her from being stabbed in the back by her opponent’s friend and later confronts her foe’s House with her. For even as the fighter-mages of the wjlliam great houses prepare for their annual battle in the arena, a stranger arrives for Festival.
You can write about the worst, most ridiculous premise possible and still turn it into a well-written story if you try.

Sometimes they’re magic trees that eat people but sometimes they’re literally just a bunch of trees in which he hides. Mar 14, Mashael rated it it was ok.
The characters are paper-thin and the plot is pretty pulpy, inspired – as several reviews have pointed out – by the timeless willuam of Yojimbo. Presumably, they have old-style small streets and walkways. The standard practice in fighter-wizard battles is to aeena a spell on the outcome. I think one of these stars is for nostalgia, but I do still find the book reliably entertaining after over a decade and quite accessible even for someone who doesn’t know anything about Magic: The Gathering cards, turn the two rival groups into four or fiveand you’ve got Arena.
I had a few other books based on Magic: God, that was over 10 years ago. The way he avoids backstory or emotional reactions is similarly relieving, because he can’t manage to be consistent with it, and it’s annoying to forstcuen to think of the author as The Emotionally Retarded Man.

Jan 04, Alex rated it liked it. This changed after the former Grand Master killed off the entire Fifth House and took their cache of mana, becoming Planeswalker Kuthuman. The Gathering, but this is the only one Arema kept after my big move. No extensive review or anything, but this is one of my all time favorite books.
