In the flashback of Episode 6, Ringo heard Ryoko talking in her sleep as she apparently was having a nightmare of when she became a Hero with Bad Publicity at her school after Shiro attempted to rape her and spread bad rumors shortly thereafter. This made Ringo realize Ryoko had a hidden softer side and issues in her past and they eventually became friends.
It's implied that Ryoko and Shiro had something going until the whole Attempted Rape thing. Witnessed from Ringo, Mimi and Otohime. The latter two have Animal Battle Auras of their respective creatures. Subverted; we knew Otohime was cute before we found out she used to be a little bit fat and lost weight, becoming the beautiful, insane girl we see in the show.
Of course, the reason why she decided to lose her extra mass is absolutely adorable. Also of mention is Majolica.
When we finally see what she looks like without her Nerd Glasses in the opening credits briefly and later in Episode 4, it turns out that she's pretty to the point that Generic Cuteness doesn't cover it.
Subverted a bit in that none of the characters call any attention to her during the scene in which it happens. Because You Were Nice to Me: Otohime's reason for liking Taro was because he was the only person who treated her like a person instead of insulting her due to her looks at the time.
Although much more subtle, potentially used with Ryoko towards Ryoshi, as evidenced by his determination to help her despite her repeated attempts to reject him or push him away.

Disciplinary Committee Chairman Momoko Kibitsu is revered mostly for her "talents" Cannot Spit It Out: Averted with Ryoshi, who immediately confesses to Ryoko in the first episode. However, played straight with Ryoko, who constantly either avoids the issue altogether, or something else happens that then requires their attention and is forgotten. Machiko calls Ryoko out on this in Episode 12, and she still doesn't exactly give a clear answer. Saburo Nekomiya, the mysterious boy based on Puss in Boots.
Relationships Edit Akai Ringo: Her character is based off of Little Red Riding Hood. However, she refuses to admit to those feelings to him or to anyone else. She does care a lot about him and often gets jealous late in the series when he is with other girls. She will even lie to herself and others about doing things that involve Ryoushi simply because she cannot admit to her feelings.
When the two are alone, however, she does show a softer and more friendlier side to him than she normally would. For that reason, she secluded herself and became a self-reliant, self-sufficient tomboy who can hold her own against anyone who thinks they can take advantage of her.
Throughout the series, Shiro tries multiple times to take her hostage and use her as he did in the past. Some of these attempts are initially successful, only to be ruined by Ryoushi, along with the rest of the Otogi Bank.

Notes She is considered a tsundere character. She uses two cat boxing gloves when in combat. Her character is based on the wolf from the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood". Though on several occasions she is shown to be very different from her base character; she mostly tries to act and be like the wolf, "wearing a wolf's clothing" instead of "wearing a sheep's clothing".
